Biography

Jean Pilutti’s contemporary landscapes capture the essence of the dynamic region of Eastern Ontario. Growing up as a child in the country north of Toronto created special memories for Jean.

Jean graduated from the University of Toronto receiving a B.A. in Fine Arts and a B.Ed. Honours Specialist in Visual Arts. After a career as an art educator, Jean moved to the Thousand Islands region drawn to its overwhelming beauty: the St. Lawrence River and especially the open fields. The shapes of the clouds, the light through the trees, and the roadsides are all sources of inspiration, triggering a link to past memories.

Her paintings are colourful impressions of water, trees, and farmland that deal mainly in the visual structure of the Canadian landscape and the intrigue of shape, colour, and the effects of light.

Jean is a lifelong active outdoor enthusiast. Road cycling, snowshoeing, and walking provide many of the inspirations for her landscapes. She lives surrounded by spruce trees and fields, and the sounds of nature which she continually draws upon for ideas. She chooses acrylics as her medium of expression which allows her to work quickly and spontaneously to recreate her surroundings.
